Workstudy

hogwarts.workstudy

Workstudy is intended to provide students the opportunity to pair up with employees at Hogwarts School for work experience and practise in the career of their interest. Though these occupations are obviously limited, they do provide an excellent bullet point on one's resume and give students the chance to build references for future employment outside of Hogwarts.

caretaking
Apollyon Pringle
Caretaking involves enforcement of castle rules and administration of discipline, which, in this day and age, is particularly aggressive. The caretaker is also required to keep files on those disciplined and confiscate any dangerous or banned items found in the school.

duties: occasional castle rounds with caretaker; sitting in on discipline sessions; filing
students: Walden Macnair, Ann Marchbanks, Bilius Weasley

gamekeeping
Professor Kettleburn
The responsibility of the gamekeeper is to look after all animals at Hogwarts, including thestrals, the giant squid, and those animals kept for Care of Magical Creatures. The gamekeeper is also expected to liaise with the centaurs of the Forbidden Forest if and when it is necessary.

duties: help feeding, bathing, and otherwise caring for the creatures on Hogwarts' grounds
students: Desmond Diggory, Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, Bilius Weasley
notes: students must be taking Care of Magical Creatures, OWL or NEWT level.

healing
Hippocrates & Amalthea Smethwyk
Healers are stationed in the hospital wing and are charged with the physical well-being of students. Injuries and illnesses of any sort are treated by the healer and his nurse, usually (but not always) with no questions asked.

duties: rounds with Healer and Nurse Smethwyk, paperwork, occasional midnight emergency calls
students:
Rupert Brookstanton, Jameson Kirke, Frances Li, Regulus Moonshine, Poppy Pomfrey, Eileen Prince, Elizabeth Prince, Miriam Strout
notes: students must be taking healing, OWL or NEWT level

librarianing
Barnabus Blenkinsop
The librarian's purpose is the upkeep of the library and helping students locate and borrow books. The librarian is also responsible for keeping students without permission out of the restricted section, which contains dangerous books.

duties: shelving, indexing, helping students locate books
students: Antonin Dolohov, Rodolphus Lestrange, Wilhelm Wigworthy

teaching
Headmaster Dippet
Headmaster Dippet is dedicated to encouraging the next generation of Hogwarts professors! Unfortunately, he doesn't really have time to help per se, so he tends to 'oversee' the workstudy and assign students to helping professors at random... with or without their respective permission.

duties: assignment to a professor; grading 1st - 3rd years' papers; aiding in classes
students:
Polly Applebee, Hector Dagworth-Granger, Kennan Kirke, Minerva McGonagall, Evander Nott, Pomona Sprout

If it's not too late, would it be possible to put Antonin in the Librarianing workstudy as his ninth activity, which I'll add ASAP to his profile if it's allowed? I just figured very belatedly that it would make sense for him, and so that particular programme isn't as lonely.

Can I switch Eldred into Librarianing workstudy and take him out of Wireless club? It makes a lot more sense for him. (I'll comment on the clubs entry too)

I have more questions that just occurred to me after asking about clubs! First, how do hours and scheduling work for the students involved in their various programmes, especially if the supervisor isn't played by anyone yet? Second, for teaching work-study assignments, would the professors be getting a different student than they had last term, or would it be the same one carrying on from September?

Hours and scheduling are about the same for classes -- we assume there is no overlap and the times of each meeting are hand waved to keep things simpler.

As for teaching workstudy, the assignments are done bimonthly and by Professor Dippet, so those will be announced at the start of next week on the syllabus post.
